Automatic gratuity on large parties
In the US and many other countries, restaurants commonly add an automatic gratuity of 18 to 20 percent for large groups, often six or more people. This line already appears on the bill, so you should not add another tip on top of it. The calculator lets you tick "service included" and enter that percentage so it shows only any extra you choose to leave.
Always scan the bill for "gratuity added" or "auto gratuity" before calculating your own tip. Double-tipping a large table is an easy mistake that costs real money.
Splitting a restaurant bill
If you are sharing, enter the number of people and the tool shows the per-person amount including tip. For a $200 bill with 20 percent tip split among five, each person owes $48. This avoids the awkward moment of dividing a tip by hand at the table. You can also use the dedicated split-bill tool if you want to divide a total that already includes a tip.
